The train crash of Pendolino in Bohumín station happened at 5:02 a.m.
Pendolino train (Bohumín-Praha) was driven into a constructed shifting path, the train collided with a shifting part and the Pendolino train (2 carriages) was derailed. The driver of the Pendolino died in the accident, and 4 other persons on the shunting section were injured. The stewardess in the Pendolino was also wounded. Damage to the shunting locomotive is estimated at CZK 6 million and to the track at CZK 10 million. Damage to the Pendolino train will be dozens of millions of crowns, Rail Safety Inspection Office estimates.
The investigation of the incident is only at the beginning. Still, Rail Safety Inspection Office tentatively states that the Pendolino should not have left the platform (the signal prohibited it from moving). Why the train started and other circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
