During the construction period, train services will be suspended, with replacement buses operating between Skjern and Holstebro.

Banedanmark has scheduled extensive reconstruction work on the railway line between Skjern and Holstebro to prepare the infrastructure for battery-powered trains. The project includes track renewal and the installation of charging facilities to support operations by Midtjyske Jernbaner.

The works begins March 1st 2025 and will involve replacing rails, sleepers, and ballast along significant sections of the 67-kilometer route. The existing infrastructure will be adapted to accommodate the higher axle load of battery trains, which differ from conventional diesel units. The upgraded track will be capable of supporting axle loads of up to 22.5 tons, compared to the current limit of 17.5 tons.

Additional construction activities will take place at multiple locations along the corridor. Banedanmark plans to resurface 16 level crossings and renovate three passenger crossings at Lem, Vemb, and Ringkøbing stations. New platforms will be built at Lem Station, and drainage systems will be upgraded. At the stations in Lem, Ringkøbing, Ulfborg, and Vemb, modifications to track geometry and re-laying of tracks are expected to improve train movements.

Infrastructure work will also extend to bridges along the route, with planned construction at the Tim Å and Store Å bridges. Nine switches are set to be replaced as part of the broader effort to modernize the line.

To support battery train operations, Banedanmark is establishing charging facilities at Skjern and Holstebro. These installations will be completed in parallel with the track work to allow Midtjyske Jernbaner to introduce its battery-powered rolling stock on the corridor once reconstruction is finished.

The project is divided into three phases and is scheduled for completion by July 14.
