Akiem has signed a three-year lease contract with POL-MIEDŹ TRANS (PMT) for six Dragon 2 (E6ACTadnb) electric locomotives in Poland.
The six-axle locomotives, supplied under a full-service leasing agreement, are manufactured by NEWAG. They are equipped with a Last Mile module for operation on non-electrified sections and fitted with ETCS Baseline 3 as well as onboard monitoring systems for pantographs and track interaction. Maintenance is provided in cooperation with NEWAG.
The addition of the Dragon 2 fleet will replace four-axle locomotives currently in use at PMT. The operator plans to run trains of up to 3,200 tonnes and formations of up to 42 wagons. On the Kłodzko–Małkinia route, the new locomotives are already hauling 40-wagon aggregates trains.
According to the companies, Akiem has also delivered driver training ahead of entry into service, with further sessions planned for workshop staff. PMT already operates two TRAXX E483 locomotives leased from Akiem, bringing the total number of Akiem locomotives in its fleet to eight.
Test runs have been carried out on sections including Niedoradz–Stary Kisielin (11.5‰) and Godków–Chojna–Krzywin Gryfiński (8.5‰), where the locomotives operated under winter conditions.
