CPKC has received the 170th and final Wabtec Evolution Series ET44AC Tier 4 locomotive under a multi-year order.
The ET44AC locomotives are fitted with advanced traction control, efficient cooling systems and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-certified Tier 4 diesel engines. CPKC said the locomotives reduce nitrogen oxides and particulate matter compared with Tier 3 diesel locomotives, while also improving fuel economy and reliability.
The Wabtec deliveries form part of a wider locomotive investment programme worth more than EUR 688m (USD 800m). CPKC has ordered new locomotives from both Wabtec and Progress Rail.
CPKC is continuing the programme with Progress Rail, including 30 new EMD SD70ACe-T4 Tier 4 freight locomotives due for delivery in the second half of 2026 from Progress Rail’s facility in Muncie, Indiana. These locomotives are part of a broader order for 65 new Tier 4 locomotives from Progress Rail.
