Train driver has died today morning, at around 11.30 a.m., after collision of two freight trains. The accident has happened in Mihăești, Olt County, Romania.

As local rescue troops have informed, in order to deal with the emergency, a rescue vehicle and an ambulance, a heavy rescue vehicle and a multi-risk container from the Alexandria Fire Brigade and a SAJ Teleorman crew were sent to the scene.

These rescuers were also supported by firefighting crews from the Olt ISU, with two ambulances, a heavy rescue vehicle, a multi-risk container and three fire engines with rescue equipment.

When the intervention forces arrived, it was found that there was a dead victim inside the locomotive (a man of about 60 years of age). Two other persons, employees of the CFR railway company, who were involved in this event, showed no visible signs of trauma, which is why they were monitored on the spot and refused transportation to hospital.

Romanian ministry of transport Sorin Grindeanu commented this distaster on social networks:

"In such terrible moments, I send my condolences to the family of the train conductor who lost his life in today's train accident. I am, at all times, informed of the situation on the ground. Plan Red is currently activated. The situation was caused by the derailment of a private freight train. I ask railway investigation office to quickly establish the causes of the accident so that justice can punish those responsible for this tragedy," Grindeanu wrote on Facebook.

Firefighters are continuing their mission to prevent and extinguish the fire and the authorities have taken over the investigation. The cause of this tragedy is still unknown.
