BLS Cargo has started operating block train services transporting new BMW vehicles between Leipzig and Zeebrugge for automotive logistics provider ARS Altmann.
The service marks BLS Cargo’s first regular operations to Leipzig. Ahead of the launch, the company trained locomotive drivers for the new route under tight time constraints, enabling the start of commercial services as scheduled.
The trains connect BMW production in Leipzig with the port of Zeebrugge, one of Europe’s main hubs for finished vehicle exports. Automotive traffic is a core segment for ARS Altmann, which uses rail to move vehicles from production sites to ports and distribution centres across Europe.
For BLS Cargo, the new service expands its footprint beyond its traditional Alpine and north–south corridors, adding an east–west automotive flow linking Germany and Belgium.
