A level crossing accident in Buggenhout, Belgium, has claimed at least four lives after a passenger train hit a school minibus on Tuesday morning. The victims include two children, the driver and another adult travelling in the vehicle.
The crash happened at the Vierhuizen level crossing, near Buggenhout station. According to local reports, seven children and two adults were on board the minibus. Two other people were seriously injured, while no injuries were reported among passengers on the train.
Belgian rail infrastructure manager Infrabel said the barriers were down and the traffic lights were red at the time of the collision. Police and prosecutors are investigating how the minibus came to be on the crossing.
