Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has issued a tender for the design, manufacture and supply of 10 new passenger trains for its Northern Network, according to the company.
The scope covers train design, manufacturing and delivery, alongside long-term maintenance to support fleet availability and asset lifecycle management. SAR stated that the additional trains would increase the Northern Network’s passenger capacity to nearly three times its current level, with total annual seating capacity exceeding 2.4 million seats.
The Northern Network extends around 2,700 km and links Riyadh with Al-Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf and Al-Qurayyat. SAR plans to expand passenger services on the corridor through additional stations, including Al-Zulfi.
SAR has also ordered 10 passenger trains for the Eastern Line as part of its wider passenger fleet expansion programme across the national rail network.
