ÖBB is facing the largest generational turnover in its history

ÖBB is looking for 3,000 new employees this year, with a total of 15,000 jobs to be offered on the Austrian labour market over the next five years.


Last week we reported that Deutsche Bahn continues to increase its staff in 2023. Similarly, Austrian company ÖBB has stated that it plans to expand its team with new hires. The recruitment is mainly because around one-fifth of ÖBB's employees will retire by 2027. ÖBB expects to recruit 3,000 new employees each year and to offer approximately 15,000 jobs over the next 5 years.

“We are now facing the biggest generational change in our history. As Austria's largest company in the fields of climate protection, mobility, and logistics, we convince with meaningful jobs in a future-oriented industry," commented Andreas Matthä, Chief Executive Officer, ÖBB-Holding AG.

ÖBB will offer most of the new jobs in specific railway professions such as train drivers, train operators, shunters, dispatchers, and vehicle maintenance technicians. Furthermore, the ÖBB itself offers 1,400 apprenticeships at the ÖBB. During the year, monthly courses start throughout Austria, where those interested in working as a train driver, shunter (with or without traction vehicle service), dispatcher, and wagon master can train.
