Transfesa Logistics initiated its first intermodal rail highway service under the Medex brand on June 16, connecting Perpignan, France, and Cologne, Germany. The route begins at the Saint Charles Container Terminal (PSCCT) in Perpignan and terminates at the HGK CTS-Westkai Terminal in Cologne.
Initially operating three roundtrips per week, the service is scheduled to increase frequency to four weekly rotations starting from September. Each Medex train accommodates up to 36 semi-trailers or containers, which are transported on pocket wagons.
The new connection aligns with the broader intermodal strategy of Transfesa’s parent company, DB Cargo, prioritizing railway solutions as alternatives to road-based transport.
Medex represents Transfesa’s entry into the competitive rail highway market, which currently includes operators such as VIIA and CargoBeamer.
