Adif has started approval tests for a new auscultation train designed for conventional gauge lines. The new auscultation train, developed in collaboration with Stadler, is part of a €74.4 million investment for three new units scheduled to be operational within 2024. These trains are essential for carrying out detailed infrastructure inspections and predictive maintenance, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to assess track conditions and minimize potential incidents.
Adif already has a fleet of 6 auscultation vehicles for conventional and high-speed lines. The supply of these three new auscultation trains and two other units for high-speed lines ordered from Talgo and CAF, representing an investment of 68.3 million euros, responds to the growth of the railway network and the analysis of the infrastructure for its optimal maintenance.
In addition, Adif has earmarked almost 300 million euros for the purchase of 43 new locomotives from Stadler to strengthen its maintenance operations on the high-speed, conventional, and metric gauge networks. These locomotives, designed for various maintenance tasks including line survey and incident response, feature advanced signaling and communication systems and are capable of speeds up to 160 km/h. The first 22 locomotives ordered have been homologated, have been granted market approval, and will be put into service later this year after driver training has been completed. The remaining 6 units are in production. Of the other 15 locomotives, also diesel-electric, 12 will be used for maintenance work on the conventional network and 3 on the metric gauge network.
