Since freight services began in early November 2025, around 1,050 trains with over 21,000 wagons have run on the new line.

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has transported more than one million tonnes of freight in the first 100 days of operations on the Koralm Railway.

According to RCG, the Koralm Railway shortens routes, adds capacity and strengthens links within southern Austria and towards Adriatic ports. The line enables more direct routings in single wagonload traffic by removing the need for detours via Knittelfeld, Leoben and Frohnleiten.

Long-standing customers including Alpacem Austria are using the route for the transport of granulated blast-furnace slag, clinker, gypsum and ash within Austria and to Italy. The company relies on single wagonload services for these flows.

Together with the existing line over the Neumarkter Sattel, the southern axis now offers four tracks. ÖBB states that this increases capacity by up to 30%. Further capacity gains are linked to the completion of additional infrastructure projects, including the Semmering Base Tunnel.
