ČD Cargo has enhanced its locomotive fleet by integrating the Siemens Vectron Dual Mode, following a successful trial period.

In a move to bolster its operational capabilities, ČD Cargo introduced the Siemens Vectron Dual Mode locomotive, number 248.082, to its fleet in early April. This addition follows its promising performance during last year’s trial, where it covered over 4,063 kilometers, primarily servicing routes like Děčín – Mělník and Nymburk, and extending to non-electrified lines such as Děčín to Česká Lípa.

Tomáš Tóth, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ČD Cargo, shared insights on the acquisition, stating, "We have leased the Vectron from North Rail for a period of one year with an option. A modern vehicle fleet is a necessary precondition for expansion into foreign markets." He highlighted the locomotive’s significant role in the company's operations, particularly in Germany where ČD Cargo transported almost 2.3 million tonnes of goods last year alone.

The Vectron Dual Mode is adaptable for lines with a 15kV/16.7 Hz supply system, making it particularly suitable for service in Germany. It is expected to be deployed predominantly on trains carrying automobiles, timber, or scrap iron, showcasing its versatility and efficiency in handling a variety of freight tasks. This strategic update to the fleet underscores ČD Cargo's commitment to enhancing operational capabilities and expanding its reach in the international market.
