A newly developed freight wagon for scrap logistics, designed jointly by LogServ, DB Cargo, and TransANT, is undergoing operational trials. The latest test included an unloading process at the voestalpine Stahl Donawitz industrial railway, evaluating its functionality under real conditions.
The wagon's design incorporates lightweight construction, which allows for higher payload capacity, particularly for heavy scrap types. This feature aligns with planned changes in scrap deliveries to the Donawitz site, where adjustments in logistics will accompany the commissioning of an electric arc furnace in 2027. The shift is expected to require solutions for handling increased scrap volumes, with different types of freight wagons considered for transport.
