JSC Ukrzaliznytsia welcomed a new director for its representative offices abroad, Oleksandra Vasylenko, in August 2023. Vasylenko previously served as the Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy at Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2022 onwards. In this role, she played a pivotal part in coordinating the country's transport initiatives. Now, at Ukrzaliznytsia, she will oversee all international operations. With her extensive background in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vasylenko is expected to facilitate the seamless integration of Ukraine's railway transport with European Union countries, enabling it to become a prominent freight transportation operator within the EU.
A testament to this initiative is the recent establishment of Ukrainian Railways Cargo Poland in July 2023. Already operational, this new subsidiary will be led by Mykhailo Plastun. Emphasising the importance of this strategic move, the CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia, Yevhen Lyashchenko, remarked, "The primary objective for Ukrainian Railways Cargo Poland, as our operational arm in the EU, is to guarantee efficient logistics for goods originating from Ukraine. Especially with the blockade at the seaports, ensuring swift and reliable transport is crucial for the stability of our national economy and for maintaining the export of Ukrainian products and raw materials."
