The service is a significant step in restoring regional connectivity, offering a welcomed link between the two countries.

The railway between Tunisia and Algeria was reopened last Sunday after a 30-year break. It's a milestone for the regional transport network. The train has a capacity of 300 passengers. Additional passengers are expected to board the train at various stops along the route.

According to Taoufik Boufayed, CEO of the Tunisian National Railways Company (SNCFT), the seven-hour journey covers more than 300 kilometers. The scheduled stops are Beja, Jendouba, Ghar el-Damma, and the Algerian cities of Souk Ahras and Annaba.

Significant logistical efforts have been made to prepare for the resumption of the service, including the upgrading of the Ghar el-Damma station in Jendouba at a cost of EUR 18,000. Minister Zanzri said she was pleased to see the rail link, which hadn't operated since 1994, reinstated and highlighted the potential for further expansion based on the service's efficiency.

At present, the service will operate three times a week, with departures from Tunis on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The frequency of these services may be increased if demand proves sufficient.
