The DUSS terminal in Cologne has undergone an upgrade with the addition of a new portal crane, increasing its handling capacity.
The newly installed portal crane, referred to as the ninth at the terminal, has the following specifications has height of 21 meters and width of 52 meters. It has improved operational efficiency, and quieter handling processes due to modern technology. The terminal upgrade aligns with ongoing efforts to support rail freight transport.
In addition to the recent installation, six existing cranes at the terminal are planned for replacement by 2027. These replacements are aimed at increasing the terminal’s handling capacity and operational performance.
The terminal in Cologne serves as a critical hub for intermodal freight operations, transferring containers, swap bodies, and trailers between trucks and trains. Its expanded capacity is expected to meet growing demands for rail freight services, which play a key role in reducing road traffic and associated environmental impacts.
With this upgrade, the Cologne terminal continues to serve as a key node in Germany’s intermodal freight network.
