The project will integrate the port's Andalusia Wharf with the La Boella rail terminal, creating a gateway designed to connect maritime traffic from Asia and Latin America with inland rail services across Spain and Europe.
Rail-port integration forms a central part of the development. The La Boella terminal will operate as an extension of the port, linking Tarragona with inland logistics centres and supporting rail freight flows along the Ebro corridor and towards central Spain.
The investment strengthens Tarragona's strategy of expanding rail's role in hinterland transport. Alongside the terminal project, the port is advancing other intermodal developments, including the Guadalajara-Marchamalo inland terminal and new logistics facilities connected to the Mediterranean Corridor.
COSCO and PTP plan to begin operations after the concession is finalised, with the terminal expected to become fully operational during 2028. COSCO operates hinterland rail logistics via its Spanish rail freight operator, CSP Logitren.
