Two years ago (April 2021), Danske Statsbaner (DSB) ordered one hundred electric multiple units from Alstom. With the plan for trains to start arriving in 2024, the manufacturer has made and presented a 1:1 model of the Coradia Stream train that will earn an IC5 commercial name at DSB.
In the IC5 version, the Coradia Stream is adapted technically to Danish requirements and adapted to Danish design traditions. The 1:1 scale model of the future train is equipped with seats, tables and an interior. The mock-up aims to validate the train's functionality and design for different stakeholder groups, such as users with reduced mobility. In addition, the mock-up can be used to prepare the training of DSB's staff and, in general, to show customers what they can look forward to in the finished train.
The delivery of all trains should be finished in five years from the beginning of the production. Each of the 5-car trainsets will accommodate 300 passengers, and these trains will be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 200 km/h.
The IC5 trains will replace the IC3, IC4, IR4 and Øresund trains, which are being phased out continuously and will run as both InterCityLyn, InterCity and regional trains.
