The modernization aims to increase the terminal's transshipment capacity, reduce CO2 emissions, and digitize and automate its processes.

With the support of the European Union, CFL terminals is investing in the modernization of the Bettembourg-Dudelange intermodal terminal in Luxembourg. The Bettembourg-Dudelange intermodal terminal development project has been selected for funding under the CEF-Transport 2021 call for projects. The project will extend and improve the capacity of this intermodal terminal.

"CFL terminals and CFL multimodal are proud to be among the projects selected to receive a grant under the CEF-Transport 2021 call for projects. This underlines the importance of our development plans as a multimodal hub in the heart of Europe,” said Daniel Feyder, CEO of CFL terminals.

Last September, CINEA and CFL Terminals, in cooperation with CFL Multimodal, signed an agreement to finance the PULSE investment project (capacity, automation, digitalization, decarbonization, and modernization). The European Commission then granted €2.3 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the modernization of the Bettembourg-Dudelange intermodal terminal. The modernization of the terminal will increase the transshipment capacity under the combined transport platform's cranes by more than 60%. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions from the rail-highway platform by around 50% and to digitize and automate processes at the terminal. The project will also include studies on the deployment of a 5G network and future infrastructure developments within the project.
