The contract for network 35b will begin with the timetable change on 13 December 2026 and run until the end of 2040.

The Ministry of Transport of Baden-Württemberg has awarded the contract for the local rail passenger transport network 35b to Arverio Baden-Württemberg.

Network 35b comprises five lines with an annual volume of up to 10.3 million train-kilometres. Services will be operated with new Coradia Max double-decker trains procured by the state, supplemented in the early stages by Siemens Mireo and Alstom Talent 3 plus units. All trains will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).

The commissioning of network 35b will coincide with the launch of Stuttgart 21 and the introduction of ETCS upgrades. Arverio, a subsidiary of ÖBB Holding, has been training new drivers for the network since January 2025 to address staffing needs ahead of the start of operations.

Network 35a, which includes seven lines with up to 9.9 million train-kilometres per year, has been awarded to DB Regio. Both contracts form part of the Stuttgart–Lake Constance network tender.
