DB Cargo, has taken delivery of the EffiShunter 1000 locomotive produced by Czech manufacturer CZ LOKO. The locomotive is the first of four units ordered for service in Italy, where they will be deployed in key logistics terminals and for collecting individual car shipments from non-electrified lines. The introduction of the EffiShunter 1000 locomotives will replace the need to hire competing Vossloh G1000 locomotives.

The second locomotive is currently being completed at the Jihlava plant and is also destined for Brescia. Two further locomotives will be delivered later this year for use in Cervignano and Domodossola.

The EffiShunter 1000 is equipped with an 895 kW CAT C32 internal combustion engine that meets stringent EU Stage V emission standards. Its AC/AC electric power transmission with individual two-wheel drive enables seamless operation in almost all EU countries once equipped with relevant national packages. It is currently available in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Sweden, and Slovakia, and is in the approval process in Norway and Romania.

In Italy, 33 EffiShunter 1000 locomotives are already in service with the subsidiary CZ LOKO. The introduction of EffiShunter 1000 locomotives by DB Cargo in Italy is a milestone in improving rail operations, promoting efficiency, and meeting environmental standards on the European rail network.
