This rail service offers a fast and reliable alternative to the disrupted sea route via the Red Sea and the port of Piraeus, Greece.

In response to the logistical challenges posed by the closure of traditional Red Sea trade routes, Lineas, in partnership with CSP Zeebrugge, has announced the establishment of a new rail link between Zeebrugge, Belgium, and Graz, Austria. This innovative logistical solution will serve COSCO Shipping Lines by providing an alternative route following the disruptions caused by Houthi rebel attacks, which have made the usual route via the Red Sea and the port of Piraeus in Greece temporarily inaccessible.

The collaboration between Lineas and CSP Zeebrugge was born out of the urgent need to develop an efficient and flexible transport alternative. This newly introduced train service promises to provide a fast and reliable means of transit for goods from Belgium to Austria, ensuring continuity in the delivery of goods amidst the prevailing challenges of the sea route.

Tom De Wannemacker, Business Development Manager at CSP Zeebrugge, highlighted the importance of working with Lineas to maintain service reliability and customer focus under difficult circumstances. Bernard Gustin, Executive Chairman of Lineas, expressed satisfaction with the rapid and effective response to the logistical obstacles encountered by their partners at COSCO Group: “This new connection highlights the flexibility of our network, and we are committed to continuing to provide innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers,” added Gustin.
