Both agreements commit Alstom to deliver ETthe CS system, including the design and implementation of the solution. The ETCS system will be supplemented by national functionalities to allow train operation in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia.

Alstom's signalling unit in Charleroi will be responsible for the engineering of the various signalling systems and the supply of on-board equipment. Alstom will also provide maintenance, including spare parts and repairs, for a period of 10 years.

The European Train Control System Level 2 allows continuous digital radio communication with train movements based on the detection of signalling block occupancy by the trackside system. It provides the highest level of safety protection and allows network capacity to be increased when used without lineside signals or with lineside signal cancellation. Originally designed to harmonise cross-border rail traffic, ETCS Level 2 increases the speed, punctuality and capacity of trains in complete safety. The most advanced version of Level 2 (Baseline 3) features optimised braking curves for maximum operational performance and improved passenger comfort.
