The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has introduced a new non-stop TransFER connection between Budapest and Curtici, adding another route to its intermodal network across Central and Southeastern Europe.
One weekly round trip is planned at launch, with the option to increase to two depending on demand. The route is positioned as an additional corridor for traffic moving between Western, Central and Southeastern Europe, including flows toward the Balkans and Turkey.
The new connection accepts standard intermodal loading units such as 20-, 30-, 40- and 45-foot containers, as well as swap bodies and cranable trailers. RID-classified dangerous goods are also permitted.
Budapest–Curtici is integrated into RCG’s wider network, allowing onward combinations with services including Budapest–Duisburg, Budapest–Zeebrugge and Wels–Vienna–Budapest. According to RCG, the linkage is intended to streamline intermodal movements by reducing the number of transfers within the network and enabling more direct routing across the region.
